Thaumcraft 3 Item List
 Thaumcraft 3 Research
 Thaumcraft 3 Aspects

Thaumcraft 3 introduces an intricate new crafting and transmutation system with a huge variety of new tools, weapons and utility items, new mobs and a golem-based logistics system that is very different from other systems like the pipes of Buildcraft. The items, and some of the resources needed to craft them, are gradually unlocked using an intuitive research system.

Toying with magic is not entirely harmless, though: If too much magic is drained from the environment, it will cause magical disturbances that are called Flux. If the Flux levels get too high in a given area, malicious beings of pure magic and even darker beings can spawn and attack you.

Thaumcraft 3 also interfaces with some other mods like Forestry.

Use the key combination "CTRL + F" (on Mac: "CMD + F") to search for specific items with your browser's text search function.

1.1. Resources: Naturally Occuring Resources

Listed here are unprocessed items that can be found in nature.

Icon Name Recipe Notes

Amber, Amber Block, Amber Bricks

  4

Amber is obtained by mining Amber Bearing Stone, which can be found within stone on almost any height. It is one of the rare carriers of the Vinculum aspect.

Four pieces of Amber can be crafted into the slightly translucent Amber Block, which in turn can be crafted into non-translucent Amber Bricks. Both Amber Blocks and Amber Bricks can be crafted back into four regular pieces of Amber.

Cinnabar Ore, Quicksilver, Quicksilver Drop, Shimmerleaf

Cinnabar Ore can be found within regular stone. Smelting it in a furnace (or any other furnace-like machine added by other mods) yields one piece of Quicksilver.

If the Cinnabar Ore is smelted in an Infernal Furnace, you can obtain additional Quicksilver Drops, nine of which can be crafted into a regular unit of Quicksilver.

You can also obtain Quicksilver by breaking the Shimmerleaf flowers that grow around Silverwood Trees.

Greatwood Log, Greatwood Leaves, Greatwood Sapling Greatwood Trees generate in most biomes throughout the world, although they are easiest to find in a plains biome. They can grow very high and usually only generate in areas with higher-than-average vis levels. Although greatwood trees may be bigger than regular trees and have a wider trunk as well, they still generate only from one single sapling.

Some greatwood trees generate with cobwebs in the upper leaves. This indicates a hidden chest beneath the base of the tree as well as a cave spider spawner.

Greatwood logs provide more yield when crafting Arcane Wood Blocks, and they are necessary for the creation of Wood Golem Workers. In addition to that, both greatwood logs and greatwood saplings are a source of the Praecantatio aspect.

Silverwood Log, Silverwood Leaves, Silverwood Sapling, Shimmerleaf Silverwood Trees are rare, highly magical trees that only spawn in areas with very high Vis levels. Their leaves sparkle and emit a faint level of light (light level 7, same as redstone torches). The trees themselves are similar in shape to big oak trees from vanilla Minecraft.

Silverwood logs are used in Thaumcraft recipes like the Flux Filter, and they contain both the Purus aspect and the Praecantatio aspect. The saplings contain both aspects as well, while the leaves only contain the Purus.

Upon destroying the leaves with anything other than shears, there is a small chance of dropping a silverwood sapling. The local aura must contain at least 100 Vis for a planted sapling to grow into a tree. Using bonemeal as a fertilizer will not work, but a Hoe of Growth can be used to make it grow instantly. When the tree grows, it will also create a new aura node with a capacity between 50 and 100 Vis. This can be used to move or to enlarge existing nodes.

There are usually a small number of Shimmerleaf flowers growing around the base of a Silverwood Tree. They can be picked up when mined with shears; otherwise they will drop Quicksilver.

Shards, Infused Stone Infused Stone is stone that has been infused with elemental Vis. There is a total of six types of infused stone, and each drops several shards of the same type upon being mined. The stone itself cannot be mined, not even with a pickaxe enchanted with Silk Touch. Some shards are found more often in certain biomes - Fire Shards can be found in deserts, Water Shards in rivers and oceans and Earth Shards in mountains.

The types of infused stone and shards are as follows:
Air - contains the aspects Aura, Motus, Praecantatio, Vitreus
Dull - contains the aspects Praecantatio, Vitreus
Earth - contains the aspects Saxum, Solum, Praecantatio, Vitreus
Fire - contains the aspects Ignis, Potentia, Praecantatio, Vitreus
Vis - contains the aspects Praecantatio, Vitreus
Water - contains the aspects Aqua, Gelum, Praecantatio, Vitreus

Shards are needed both as an aspect source as well as for a variety of crafting recipes.

Dull Shards are particularly valuable, since they are needed for the creation of Crystal Capacitors. They are gained by mining dull infused stone, which is created when the Vis level of a nearby Aura node falls low enough. If, on the other hand, the Aura level gets high enough and maintains a high level over a long period of time, it can cause regular stone to turn into infused stone.

Angry Zombie, Zombie Brain Angry Zombies are a more rare form of regular zombies. They are recognizable by their red eyes and the slightly bigger head. In addition to having more health than a regular zombie, they are much faster and deal more damage. Upon being killed, they drop a Zombie Brain.

Zombie Brains are used to create a number of items, including Arcane Pressure Plates, Arcane Doors and Brain in a Jars, which in turn are needed for the creation of more advanced golems.

Wisps, Wispy Essence Wisps are beings of pure magical energy that are created within a node when there are high levels of Flux. Each wisp has an affinity to one of the aspects. They usually don't attack the player unless they are attacked first, with the exception being wisps with an affinity to the aspects Malum, Mutatio and Mortuus.

Upon being killed, the wisps drop one Wispy Essence that corresponds to their aspect affinity. Each wispy essence has one unit of Mutatio, one unit of Animus and four units of the aspect causing the flux.

Altar, Obsidian Totem, Obsidian Tile

4

Altars and Obsidian Totems are randomly generated throughout the world. A single totem consists of one obsidian tile block and three obsidian totem blocks. While the tile blocks can be crafted by combining four obsidian in a crafting grid, the totem blocks cannot be crafted and thus must be obtained by mining naturally occuring totems.

You will occasionally stumble upon an altar, which consists of one chest surrounded by eight totem pillars of varying height. Below the chest is a Wisp spawner, and the chest itself contains the same randomized selection of loot one would also find in a regular dungeon chest.

Obsidian totem blocks are needed for creating a Mystical Construct, which can move Aura nodes from one place to another.

Knowledge Fragment

Knowledge Fragments can be found in treasure chests or bought from an alchemist villager. Nine fragments can be crafted into a Research Note. This is currently the only way to obtain the theories for Golem Accessories.

1.2. Resources: Artificial Resources

Listed here are items and ingredients that do not occur in nature and need to be manufactured.

Icon Name Recipe Research Notes

Alumentum

  3

6

5 Vis

Alumentum serves as an alternative source of fuel for furnaces as well as an explosive throwing weapon. It can smelt 32 items per unit, thus making it four times as effective as regular coal or charcoal. Upon being thrown, it leaves a black smoke trail. Its detonation is much weaker than that of TNT, as it only has a blast radius of three blocks and it cannot destroy stone blocks or blocks harder than stone.

Created in the Crucible.

Magic Tallow

4

5 Vis

Magic Tallow is needed for creating Tallow Candles as well as Tallow Golems. When you create the Magic Tallow, be aware that there is a chance that a Giant Angry Zombie might appear if you throw Rotten Flesh, Bones or Zombie Brains in the Crucible. These are highly dangerous, as they can kill with 2-3 hits even if you are wearing armor.

Created in the Crucible.

Enchanted Fabric

5 Vis

Enchanted Fabric is needed for creating the whole set of Thaumaturge's clothes as well as a Portable Hole.

Created in the Arcane Worktable or Infusion Altar.

2.1. Wands: Casting Wands

Casting wands are essentially portable magic containers. They are necessary for completing the transmutation process in the Crucible and they provide vis for the recipes in the Arcane Worktable and the Infusion Altar. They are also necessary for the transformation of a bookshelf into the Thaumonomicon, a table into an Arcane Worktable, a vanilla crucible into a transmutation Crucible, four Arcane Stone Blocks into an Infusion Altar and for finalizing the installation of an Infernal Furnace.

Icon Name Recipe Research Notes

Wand of the Apprentice

- The Wand of the Apprentice is your first casting wand to get started in Thaumcraft 3. It can only hold a total of 50 Vis, so you should upgrade to the next better wand as soon as possible.

Wand of the Adept

50 Vis

16

Like the Wand of the Apprentice, the Wand of the Adept can be used as a casting wand for a huge variety of purposes. It can hold a total of 250 Vis, enabling you to craft more advanced items.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Wand of the Thaumaturge

250 Vis

32

The Wand of the Thaumaturge is the best possible wand you can get. It can hold a total of 1,000 Vis.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

2.2. Wands: Utility Wands

Utility wands each provide one special function. They are also needed for crafting the more advanced tools of Thaumcraft 3. Unlike casting wands, they cannot renew their charge and they will break down once the charge is depleted.

Icon Name Recipe Research Notes

Wand of Fire

50 Vis

16

4

The Wand of Fire basically functions as a magic flamethrower. You can use it so set mobs on fire.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Wand of Frost

50 Vis

16

4

The Wand of Frost hurls small particles of ice that can hurt mobs and freeze water source blocks.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Wand of Lightning

50 Vis

16

4

The Wand of Lightning hurls lightning bolts at whatever living being you point it at, sometimes setting them on fire as well. However, you should not use it on creepers, as there is a high chance that the creeper may become supercharged, making them extremely dangerous.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Wand of Excavation

50 Vis

16

4

The Wand of Excavation allows you to quickly mine most materials within a range of 10 blocks, including obsidian. Harder blocks take longer to mine, though, and your movement is slowed down a bit while using the wand.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Wand of Equal Trade

50 Vis

16

4

The Wand of Equal Trade allows you to trade the block you use it on with blocks you have in your inventory.

To use the wand, you must first sneak and right-click on the block you want to mark for trading. Once you do that, a small floating icon of the block you clicked on will appear on top of your quick access bar. The white number indicates the amount of this block you currently have in your inventory.
If you then perform a left click on another block, it will be replaced with a block you marked for trading earlier. The block you clicked on will be transferred to your inventory while one of the marked blocks will be removed from your inventory. There are a variety of applications for this: You can use the wand to harvest lots of obsidian rather fast, or you can use it to easily change the appearance of one of your buildings without having to remove and replace all blocks manually, for instance.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Rod of the Nine Hells

250 Vis

32

32

32

The Rod of the Nine Hells can summon hellbats that go after your enemies. To use it, point the rod at an enemy and activate it with a right-click. This will summon a hellbat that will immediately attack the enemy. Hellbats deal one heart damage and attack rather quickly. They can also set your enemy on fire, and sometimes they detonate themselves, dealing massive damage.

The rod will siphon vis from the local aura to recharge itself. One hellbat charge will remove six vis from the local aura, so be careful to not overuse the rod.

Thaumonomicon

- The Thaumonomicon is your one-stop ingame resource on all things Thaumcraft. It provides background information on flux, aura and magic in general, and it contains in-debth information on all Thaumcraft items, and how to acquire or craft them.

Items that you have not researched yet are either greyed out or not shown at all. Whenever you read a newly researched scroll, it will automatically be added to the Thaumonomicon, and the corresponding icon will be unlocked.

The Thaumonomicon is created by using a casting wand on a bookshelf.

Scribing Tools

- Scribing Tools have two purposes. First, if you right-click on two Tables that are placed adjacent to each other, you can craft a Research Table. Second, if you throw random stuff in a crucible while carrying the scribing tools and some paper on you, you can make random discoveries that can then be further researched.

Glass Phial

  8

- Glass Phials are used to store aspects, or essentia. Each phial can hold exactly 8 units of one single essentia (no more, no less). You can fill them by right-clicking on either a Warded Jar filled with essentia, or an Arcane Alembic. You can then either throw the essentia phials into a crucible for usage, or transfer the essentia contained within into another warded jar. The phial is destroyed during the transfer.

Thaumium Pickaxe

- The Thaumium Pickaxe has the same mining speed as a regular iron pickaxe, but it is more durable and it can hold enchantments much better.

Since it is made from Thaumium, you can enchant it with the Repair enchantment, which allows it to repair itself by drawing vis out of the local aura.

Thaumium Shovel

- The Thaumium Shovel has the same digging speed as a regular iron shovel, but it is more durable and it can hold enchantments much better.

Since it is made from Thaumium, you can enchant it with the Repair enchantment, which allows it to repair itself by drawing vis out of the local aura.

Thaumium Axe

- The Thaumium Axe has the same cutting speed as a regular iron axe, but it is more durable and it can hold enchantments much better.

Since it is made from Thaumium, you can enchant it with the Repair enchantment, which allows it to repair itself by drawing vis out of the local aura.

Thaumium Hoe

- The Thaumium Hoe is more durable than a regular iron hoe and can hold enchantments much better.

Since it is made from Thaumium, you can enchant it with the Repair enchantment, which allows it to repair itself by drawing vis out of the local aura.

Thaumium Sword

- The Thaumium Sword deals as much damage as a regular iron sword, but it is more durable and it can hold enchantments much better.

Since it is made from Thaumium, you can enchant it with the Repair enchantment, which allows it to repair itself by drawing vis out of the local aura.

Thaumometer

20 Vis

The Thaumometer is a magical compass that points you to the nearest aura node. It is also used as a crafting ingredient for the Goggles of Revealing.

Created in the Arcane Worktable or Infusion Altar.

Magic Hand Mirror

150 Vis

16

The Magical Hand Mirror is a portable version of the magic mirror. You can link it to a regular magic mirror by right-clicking on it. If you then perform a right-click with the Magical Hand Mirror equipped, it will open a small interface with one item slot. All items placed in that slot will be ejected out of the stationary mirror it is linked with. This will use more vis than a regular magic mirror normally would, though.

The Magical Hand Mirror can be linked with a magic mirror that is already linked. You should also note that it can only send, not receive items.
br> Created in the Infusion Altar.

Portable Hole

200 Vis

24

24

16

The Portable Hole allows you to temporarily displace blocks in a straight line, thus creating a tunnel, as long as there is free space on the other side. This tunnel will stay open only for a couple of seconds, so you should traverse it fast if you don't want to suffocate. The longer the tunnel is, the longer it will stay open. The Portable Hole will use vis equivalent to the length of the tunnel, and will slowly recharge itself while drawing vis out of the local aura.

You can create both horizontal and vertical tunnels, but keep falling damage and other dangers (like lava lakes) in mind when creating a vertical tunnel.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Pickaxe of the Core

100 Vis

8

16

16

8

The Pickaxe of the Core is an advanced magical mining tool that can mine with a speed similar to a diamond pickaxe.

When you mine metal ores, there is chance of about 33% chance that instead of the ore block, a Native Ore Cluster of the same ore will be dropped. These kind of clusters are only available for tin, copper, gold, lead, silver and iron, and for all metals but gold and iron only if the metal is added by another mod. Upon being smelted, the clusters yield two ingots. The chance of getting one of these clusters can be raised to up to 75% if you apply a Fortune Enchantment to the pickaxe.

When you perform a right-click, the pickaxe analyzes an area of 3 (height) x 3 (width x 8 (length) in direction of the block you clicked on, and shows the highest aspect in the direction. A high amount of Vitreus would indicate the presence of diamonds or emeralds, for instance. This function decreases the pickaxe's durability by 5 points.

Since the Pickaxe of the Core is made from a Thaumium Pickaxe, it can be enchanted with the Repair enchantment.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Axe of the Stream

100 Vis

8

16

16

8

The Axe of the Stream allows you to easily break down trees from top to bottom, thus saving you the trouble of removing freefloating treeheads. The wood blocks removed in this way will automatically float towards you.

When you left- and rightclick at the same time while chopping down a tree, the wood blocks will be removed very fast, but the axe also loses much more durability. If you do not want to use any of the special abilities, hold the sneak key while using the axe.

Since the Axe of the Stream is made from a Thaumium Axe, it can be enchanted with the Repair enchantment.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Sword of the Zephyr

100 Vis

16

8

8

16

The Sword of the Zephyr is a magical sword capable of hitting several enemies at once. When you perform and hold right-click, the sword will conjure a tornado capable of deflecting incoming projectiles as well as blowing away mobs. If you use the sword like this while falling, you will gently glide to the ground instead without taking any falling damage. Be careful to not use the sword in this manner while being in a boat, however, since this will cause the boat to be lifted hundreds of blocks high.

Since the Sword of the Zepyhr is made from a Thaumium Sword, it can be enchanted with the Repair enchantment.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Shovel of the Earthmover

100 Vis

16

8

16

8

The Shovel of the Earthmover is an advanced piece of digging equipment that allows you to excavate 3 x 3 patches of whatever material a regular shovel can remove.

If you perform a right-click on a block, and you have a sufficient amount of the same block in your inventory, the shovel will automatically create a horizontal 3 x 3 platform of the same material on top of that block. This works with any material. Press and hold the sneak key if you don't want to use the special abilities of the shovel.

Since the Shovel of the Earthmover is made from a Thaumium Shovel, it can be enchanted with the Repair enchantment.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Hoe of Growth

100 Vis

16

16

8

8

The Hoe of Growth is an advanced piece of farming equipment with which you can till huge areas of land fast, as it can till 3 x 3 blocks at a time.

It also provides the same functionality as bonemeal, as it will instantly speed up the growth of that plant to its last stage. As opposed to bonemeal however, it can also grow special saplings from Silverwood Trees. You can temporarily deactivate these special abilities by pressing and holding the sneak key.

Since the Hoe of Growth is made from a Thaumium Hoe, it can be enchanted with the Repair enchantment.

5. Arcane Devices and Machinery

Recipe Research Notes

Crucible

- The Crucible is one of the first and also most important items you will use in Thaumcraft. You can create it by using a casting wand on a regular cauldron from vanilla Minecraft.

To be able to use it, you need to either light a fire or place lava directly beneath it, and fill it with a bucket of water. After a few seconds, bubbles will start to rise and you will be able to use it. You can then throw items in it to extract the aspects contained within - refer to this list to see what items contain which aspect.

You can use a tallow golem to keep the crucible refilled at all time. Connecting one or several arcane bellows to its sides will reduce the time it takes for the water to boil, and if you attach one or several arcane alembics, you can siphon off any excess aspects that would otherwise end up in the local aura, causing flux to appear.

If you keep scribing tools and some paper in your inventory while throwing things into the crucible, there is a small chance that you might make a random discovery.

Arcane Worktable

- The Arcane Worktable is created by using a Casting Wand on a Table. It functions like a regular crafting table, but in addition to that, it allows you to craft some entry-level Thaumcraft items that require the use of vis. You need to place a crafting wand in its GUI for these crafting recipes to work.
Research Table

- The Research Table is used to research new items and technologies. You can create it by using scribing tools on two tables that are placed adjacent to each other.

You can find a detailed explanation on how to use the research table on this page.

Infusion Altar

The Infusion Altar is created by placing four Arcane Stone Blocks in a square and performing a right-click on them with a Wand. This will use up 25 Vis and cause the stones to turn into an Infusion Altar. You can use the altar for all regular crafting recipes, all recipes requiring an Arcane Worktable and the more advanced recipes that require the use of aspects.

If one of the four stones comprising the altar is mined, the other three blocks will turn back into regular Arcane Stone Blocks. Note that you cannot obtain the Infusion Altar through NEI or other means unless you have researched Magical Building Blocks.

In order to be able to use the more advanced recipes that require aspects, you have to place a Crucible or any other source of aspects (like Warded Jars) within reach of the Infusion Altar. The altar will be able to use any sources placed around it within a 24 x 24 square with the altar in the center, and up to 5 blocks higher or lower than the altar.

The bar below the crafting grid in the GUI shows the aspects required to complete the current crafting recipe. If the required aspects are not supplied, they will be greyed out and the crafting recipe cannot be completed. If you want to create items that require the use of Vis, you have to place a wand in the slot in the bottom right corner. The number below this slot indicates the amount of Vis left in the within the wand, and the number below the crafting output slot indicates the amount of Vis necessary to complete the crafting recipe.

Warded Jar

20 Vis

Warded Jars store essentia in a way that makes it directly accessible from an infusion altar. Each jar can store up to 64 units of one single type of essentia. You can either use tallow golems or decanting golems for keeping the jars filled, or you can do it yourself by using glass phials. If you are wearing Goggles of Revealing, you can see what type of essentia is stored in a jar.

Warded jars are also required for crafting brain in a jars, which in turn are needed for many of the more advanced thaumaturgical devices.

Brain in a Jar

66 Vis

8

8

8

The Brain in a Jar is a disembodied zombie brain that can store experience orbs of monsters and animals that were killed close to it. It can store a maximum of 1000 XP, which is enough to bring a player all the way from level 0 to level 30. If you want to access the XP stored in the brain, just perform one or several right-clicks on its jar, and it will give up the XP orbs.

The brain in a jar is a necessary crafting ingredient for the more advanced golems.

Arcane Bellows

50 Vis

16

24

Arcane Bellows can used to improve the performance of the crucible, the Infernal Furnace and the regular furnaces from vanilla Minecraft.

If attached to the three designated sides of the Infernal Furnace, the Arcane Bellows will increase the likelikehood of receiving bonus items from smelting, lessen the emission of flux and speed up the smelting process. When the bellows are attached to a crucible, they will reduce the time the water takes to boil.

When attached to a regular furnace, they will not only speed up the smelting process, but they will also allow you to smelt more items per unit of coal - one bellows attached will allow you to smelt 21 items, two bellows will give you 26 smelting processs, three will give you 31, and a full set of four bellows will allow you to smelt 36 items per unit of coal, more than double the usual amount.

Arcane Alembic

75 Vis

8

8

8

The Arcane Alembic can be attached to a crucible, where it will suck up and store one single type of excess essentia that would otherwise be poured into the local aura, causing flux. It can store up to 16 units of one single aspect.

You can manually remove essentia from the alembic with a glass phial, or you could assign a tallow golem or a decanting golem to do it for you.

Hungry Chest

25 Vis

8

4

8

The Hungry Chest will eat and store all items that are dropped very close or on top of it. You can use this to collect the processings of an Infernal Furnace.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Infernal Furnace

The Infernal Furnace is a fuel-free magical furnace that allows you to smelt items efficiently and fast. It is created by placing a structure made out of 12 obsidian, 12 nether bricks, 1 iron bar, and a bucket of lava as shown in the animation to the left, and then using a casting wand with a vis charge of at least 100 on it. A pair of red eyes reminiscent of the fire demon Calcifer in Hayao Miyazakis "Howl's Moving Castle" will appear behind the iron bars, and the furnace will be operational.

In order to use the furnace, you need to throw the items you want to smelt into the opening on the top. Items that cannot be smelted will be destroyed while the smelted items, and experience orbs, will be ejected out of the front - a good spot to place a hungry chest. There is a chance that some extra meat or ore nuggets might get generated while smelting.

Attaching arcane bellows to the three designated spots increases the smelting speed, the likehood of getting bonus items, and it also decreases the output of flux.

If you destroy any block that is part of the furnace's structure, the lava block in the center of the structure will disappear and a blaze will spawn on top of the furnace. If you wish to use the furnace again, you need to renew the lava black, place the removed block back, and again use a casting wand with at least 100 vis charge on the structure.

Magic Mirror

  2

100 Vis

16

Magic Mirrors always come in pairs. If you link them up, you can transfer items between both mirrors, even if they are placed in separate dimensions. Transferring items costs 1 vis per 16 items, which will be drawn out the local aura.

To link a pair of mirrors, place the first one a desired location, then equip the second mirror in your quick access bar and perform a right click on the first mirror - both mirrors are now linked. The second mirror can then be placed wherever you want. You cannot link more than two mirrors together. Magic mirrors can be placed not only on walls, but on floors and ceilings as well.

Arcane Bore

125 Vis

32

64

16

32

24

The Arcane Bore is a fully automatic mining machine. It can only be placed below or on top of an arcane bore base (see below), and it uses both a pickaxe and a Wand of Excavation to mine all materials in the direction it is pointed to. While active, the bore will rapidly drain vis from the local aura, which might cause a large amount of Flux buildup, so you should not use it too close to your homebase.

Once a redstone signal has been applied to the bore, it will start excavating in a circular pattern with a base width of about five blocks and a total range of up to 64 blocks. All enchantments on the pickaxe and the wand of excavation will be applied on the blocks mined by the bore.

The direction of the bore can be changed with a click of your casting wand. Note that you can use two arcane bores on the same arcane bore base; you will have to supply two separate redstone signals though.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Arcane Bore Base

50 Vis

The Arcane Bore Base provides a frame upon which you can mount an arcane bore. One bore base can support up to two arcane bores - one on top, one on the bottom.

Arcane Ear

30 Vis

8

16

8

The Arcane Ear is a magical device capable of detecting the sound emitted by note blocks from vanilla Minecraft within 64 blocks range. If it detects the sound it is configured to detect, it will emit a redstone signal. You can use this to wirelessly transmit redstone signals over a distance of up to 64 blocks.

Tuning the arcane ear is pretty much the same as tuning a note block (refer to the Minecraft wiki article linked above for details). The tune depends on the material the arcane ear is placed on, and you can change the pitch by right-clicking on it with a casting wand.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Arcane Levitator

50 Vis

8

8

8

8

The Arcane Levitator can lift a player upwards or downwards very fast, but gently. If you stand on it, it will lift you up ten blocks high. If you are underneath a levitator, it will gently push you for about ten blocks without having you suffer falling damage. Each push drains a small amount of vis from the local aura.

You can stack multiple levitators on top of each other to extend the range. Also, levitators can be deactivated with a redstone signal.

6.1. Golemancy: Animation Cores

To create a golem, you first have to create an animation core. You can also choose to make your golems smart, perceptive, strong or fast depending on what type of special animation core you use in their creation.

Golem Animation Core: Basic

30 Vis

8

8

The Golem Animation Core is the base item upon which all golems are built.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Golem Animation Core: Intelligence

20 Vis

12

The Golem Animation Core: Intelligence allows you to set more item filters for the Wood Golem, the Stone Golem and the Clay Golem. If you use it to create a Straw Golem, it will enable the golem to replant what it harvested. An Iron Golem Guardian with an intelligence core can be ordered to differentiate between peaceful mobs, enemies and other players, and it can also be ordered to attack creepers, which they normally would avoid.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Golem Animation Core: Perception

20 Vis

12

The Golem Animation Core: Perception increases the perception range of golems. This will enable you to use fewer Wood Golems and Straw Golems to tend to a large field, for instance.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Golem Animation Core: Speed

20 Vis

12

The Golem Animation Core: Speed enables golems created with it to move and work much faster.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Golem Animation Core: Strength

20 Vis

12

The Golem Animation Core: Strength allows Wood Golems, Stone Golems and Clay Golems created with it to carry 32 items instead of 16. Iron Golem Guardians created with it deal more damage.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

6.2. Golemancy: Golems

Different tasks require the use of different golems.

Wood Golem Worker

40 Vis

8

8

Wood Golems can be placed on a chest or any other block or machine that has a valid container interface with at least one item slot. The golem will then pick up all items in its vicinity and place them on the side of the block where you first placed the golem. This is important, since it can affect in which slots the items are placed.

Regular wood golems will pick up all items in their vicinity while wood golems created with an intelligence core will collect up to two items you can specify.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Straw Golem Worker

50 Vis

8

8

Straw Golem Workers can be placed anywhere and will harvest any type of crop in their vicinity. You should use them in conjunction with wood golems, since they cannot pick up any items. Straw golem workers created with an intelligence core will also instantly replace the crops they harvested.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Stone Golem Worker

50 Vis

8

8

Stone Golem Workers will attempt to empty the inventory they are assigned to and move the items to another inventory designated by a Marker Block. You can either have them move all items in the inventory, or specify the items they are supposed to move. Like wood golems, they will take care to only move and place items into the side of the inventory they are assigned to.

Stone golem workers created with a strength core can carry more items, while the ones created with an intelligence core allow you to specify more items to move.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Clay Golem Worker

50 Vis

8

8

Clay Golem Workers will attempt to keep items you specify in an inventory you assign it to on stock. You can either specify a precise amount, or have the golem fill up the inventory to its limit. The clay golems will fetch the items they are supposed to keep on stock from items marked with a marker block nearby. For inventories thus marked, you can either choose a color or have the golem fetch it from any marked inventory, but the inventories have to be marked (just place a marker block below the chests). Like with wood golems and stone golems, the side of the inventory you place the clay golem on matters.

Intelligent clay golems allow you to specify more items to keep on stock, while strong clay golems can carry more items.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Advanced Stone Golem Worker

100 Vis

8

8

16

The Advanced Stone Golem Worker functions very similar to the regular stone golem, but it allows you to specify up to six item slots as well as individually assign a different color for each of those slots.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Advanced Clay Golem Worker

100 Vis

8

8

16

The Advanced Clay Golem Worker functions very similar to the regular clay g, but it allows you to specify up to six item slots as well as individually assign a different color for each of those slots.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Tallow Golem Worker

40 Vis

8

8

The Tallow Golem Worker allows you to manage your essentia and also to keep your crucible supplied with water, you only need to give it a bucket and mark a suitable water source.

If you assign a tallow golem to an arcane alembic (not the crucible it is attached to) and keep a chest with empty glass phials in its vicinity, it will transfer essentia from the arcane alembics into either a marked chest or marked warded jars within its operating range. Keep in mind that every warded jar needs to be adjacent to an individual marker block in order for this to work.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Decanting Golem

100 Vis

8

8

16

The Decanting Golem can transport any kind of liquid or essentia without the need for a bucket or glass phials. They can carry either 64 units of one single essentia or the equivalent of four buckets of other liquids.

When placed on the side of an alembic they will function like normal tallow golems, but without having to waste chests full of phials.

When placed on something capable of holding liquid, they will attempt to fill it with an appropriate liquid from any available marked sources. You can also specifiy any kind of liquids that they should fetch.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Iron Golem Guardian

50 Vis

12

12

12

12

The Iron Golem Guardian is sturdy and agile enough to engage in combat, and it also repairs damage much faster than regular golems.

Strong iron golems deal more damage, perceptive iron golems can survey a larger area, fast iron golems are, well, much faster, and intelligent iron golems allow you to specify what kind of living beings they should attack. Regular iron golems will attack any kind of monster, with the exception of creepers. If you want your golems to attack creepers, you need to craft them with an intelligence core, and you should also equip them with a dart launcher, if you have it researched already.

Crystal Cluster

100 Vis

8

8

8

Crystal Clusters can replenish the vis in the local aura and even boost it beyond the limits of the local aura node. This may lead to some flux buildup, but the benefits far outweigh the risks. And they are a nice decoration as well.

Crystal Capacitor

100 Vis

16

16

16

The Crystal Capacitor can absorb and store up to 100 vis. It will slowly absorb or release vis at a rate of one vis every five seconds in order to bring nearby aura nodes to their baseline levels. If placed in an area with lots of crystal clusters, for instance, it will slowly absorb vis until it is fully charged. You can then safely mine the block and place it somewhere else without losing vis.

The dull shards needed to create the capacitor can be hard to find, though.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Crystal Core

50 Vis

8

8

8

8

The Crystal Core is needed to create the Mystical Construct used to move aura nodes.

Created in the Infusion Altar.

Mystical Construct

The Mystical Construct is created by placing a crystal core above and in the center of four pillars of obsidian totem blocks as shown to the left.

You can then activate the construct by using a Wand of the Thaumaturge on the crystal core (other casting wands won't work, since you need more than 270 vis to activate the construct). Floating runes will appear on the obsidian totem blocks, and a white ray will emanate from the crystal core, slowly pulling the aura node towards it until it finally comes to rest at the very same position of the crystal core.

During this process, the node will almost be completely drained of vis, and lots of flux will build up as well. The base levels of the node will not change, however, and if you place some crystal clusters around the construct, the vis levels will eventually go up again.

Obviously, there is much more to learn about moving and merging aura nodes. Check out this article in the unofficial Thaumcraft 3 wiki for an in-debth explanation.
